TRAINING ON DIGITAL FINANCIAL SERVICES AND ALTERNATIVE DELIVERY
CHANNELS AT THE BANK OF TANZANIA SUB-HEAD OFFICE ZANZIBAR FROM 20th TO 24th MAY 2024

A. INTRODUCTION
The Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006
mandate the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) to license, regulate and supervise Banking Institutions
in Tanzania. As a regulator, BOT is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring stable,
sound and safe banking sector and financial system at large. In discharging this
responsibility, it is in the interest of BOT to ensure that the financial system stimulates
financial inclusion as an important means for alleviating poverty and promoting a country’s
broader economic development. This responsibility to promote financial inclusion is a
relatively new and a different role for banks and financial institutions and requires a
transformation in the conventional banking business.

It is along this background that the Bank of Tanzania Academy has organized a one-week
course, which is intended to impart necessary skills to staff of banks and financial institutions
on how to increase the reach of financial services beyond traditional branches, responding
to the demand for access “anytime, anywhere, anyhow”.

DFSs and ADCs are opportunities to serve more clients more effectively by reducing costs,
driving growth, and improving service quality. For clients, DFSs and ADCs bring
convenience and potentially a better client experience, such as lower fees and enhanced
comfort with the services. This benefit should ultimately translate into greater usage,
especially if the products are designed in ways that truly meet client needs.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
At the end of the course, participants will acquire necessary knowledge and skills that will
enable their institutions to increase the reach of financial services beyond traditional means
and therefore deliver sustainable provision of affordable digital financial services and
